Skin & Tonic London – Calm Clean

Foaming cleanser, milk cleanser, balm cleanser, oil cleanser… oh my the list goes on and on, so how do you ever choose? Never fancying the tight stripping feeling, which is super damaging and not very skin loving, I decided to try something that I hadn’t before. Wanting something that I could rely on to fully remove my make-up but also nourish and not dry out my skin I thought I would give a balm cleanser a go.

Skin & Tonic, British born and based here in the big smoke, are small in size but with a great ethos and mission. Looking at their balms, I reached for the Calm Clean for dry and sensitive skin containing some of those beautiful oils including Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, Lavandula augustifolia (lavender) flower oil and Chamomilla recucita (blue chamomile) flower oil. This little pot does not only nourish your skin while removing impurities, it is also great for mature skin and the lavender is mood calming.

Gliding onto your dry skin, while massaging in circular motions, balms make me feel like you are giving yourself a mini facial. It does have a very distinctive smell, which you can tell does not come from any nasty fragrance/parfum. Being one of those pesky people who sometimes reads how to use descriptions and follows this up with “ahh I think I’ll just do it a my own way” and in my head the outcome will be exactly the same, however as we all know this will not always give the desired result. Well this was one of those times… They specifically say Soak the 100% organic cotton face cloth in warm water and hold against your face for 1 minute to steam and activate the essential oils. Breathe in deeply and cleanse away”. I could not recommend this routine more. I personally found that just using water did not feel as if the balm had been fully removed. This is a much more beautiful and mindfulness way of cleansing. Just taking an extra minute to allow yourself some calm time lets you really get the full potential of this product. Once using the cloth I found the product easily comes off and you are left with silky soft, and nourished skin.

After a day of pollution, make-up and even though I attempt to drink my weight in water, more than likely dehydration this could not have been any more perfect. An instant boost of happiness for my skin! Not only that but there is always something about buying from a small company and knowing their products are handmade with so much love and care. A company entirely built on people and the planet before profit and ensuring that their organic standard is enforced with The Soil Association stamp of approval.

I could continue to praise Skin & Tonic for pages. A balm made for healthier skin and mind in every way. There is also a little feel good factor warming you inside knowing you are supporting many good causes by purchasing from this company… certainly a wise move in your cleansing ritual!
